Information on Dallas
Getting around Dallas can be more of a challenge. A loop encircles the city, and multilane highways seem too numerous to count. However, road construction poses a seemingly perpetual challenge for drivers. The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system of light rail lines is a good option to avoid the traffic, but currently it serves only central Dallas. Other options include trolleys and buses.

By Air

DFW International Airport
Located between Dallas and Fort Worth, DFW International Airport (DFW) is served by all major national airlines and several international carriers. DFW International is 23 mi/37 km from downtown Dallas, a 30-minute drive under normal traffic conditions.

By Train

By Bus

Greyhound
Lamar and Commerce Streets, Dallas.
Serves the city from locations across the U.S. The Dallas terminal is convenient to downtown hotels, the Dallas Convention Center and the West End Historic District. City bus service and taxis are also available from the downtown bus terminal.

By Car

You can now actually get around Dallas without a car, if you stick to the major downtown sights, hotels, and restaurants. However, if you want to visit shopping centers in North Dallas or outlying areas, like Arlington and Fort Worth, most people will be better off with an automobile. Be advised, though, that if your hotel doesn't have parking, street parking can be an expensive hassle in the downtown area.

The major rental car agencies include:
Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty.

By Taxi

There are some 17 taxi companies, including Big Tex Taxi, Checker Cab Co., Cowboy Cab Company, Yellow Cab Co.

By Public Transportation

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses and light rail, which is constantly expanding out from the downtown area.
