Shopping in Dallas
Shopping in Dallas is not just a hobby: It's a sport. The city is a retail mecca, and many of its fashionable residents religiously patronize the department stores. Although small specialty shops do exist, Dallas takes pride in its sprawling shopping centers. In addition to the independent shopping strips scattered across the Metroplex, several key malls offer an incredible variety of stores and restaurants.
Antique Stores
McKinney Avenue Antique Market
2710 McKinney Ave., Dallas.
A collection of 40 quality antique shops, this market is on the historic trolley route in the thriving Uptown entertainment area.

Snider Plaza Antique Shops
6929 Snider Plaza (a few blocks northeast of SMU), Dallas.
Twenty-five dealers offering a range of antiques.
Bookstores
Aldredge Book Store
2909 Maple, Dallas.
Located in an old house, this bookstore has been in business since 1947. Browse for out-of-print, secondhand and antique books.
Department Stores
Neiman Marcus
1618 Main St., Dallas.
Neiman Marcus is a Dallas institution. It has several stores in the Metroplex, but its downtown location -- the original flagship store -- remains a touchstone for serious, upscale shoppers. (Don't expect an "Old World" relic -- it's as slick as any other modern store.) It's also the only department store downtown.
Galleries
Casa Mexicana
2616 Elm St., Deep Ellum, Dallas.
Shop there for wonderful folk and fine art by Mexican artists.

Texas Art Gallery
5570 Lovers Lane, Suite 396 (in Inwood Village), Dallas.
Impressionist, western and Native-American art and bronze sculptures are featured.
Malls and Shopping Areas
Galleria
LBJ Freeway (I-635) at Dallas Parkway, North Dallas, Dallas.
Dallas' largest indoor mall is a great attraction for visitors. Nearly 200 stores on four levels, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Marshall Field, Tiffany's, Gucci, Charles Jourdan, Cartier and Brooks Brothers. Also at the Galleria are a food court, a multiscreen theater and an ice-skating rink. All are enclosed beneath a dramatic glass vault atrium.

Highland Park Village
Preston Road at Mockingbird Lane, Dallas.
Built in the 1930s, Highland Park Village was the nation's first shopping center and a prototype for successors in the U.S. Tenant stores range from Chanel and Hermes to the Gap. Annual wine and food festivals take place there.

NorthPark Center
1030 NorthPark Center (Northwest Highway at Central Expressway, North Dallas), Dallas.
Within 10-20 minutes of many hotels, this mall offers more than 150 stores, including Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, Lord & Taylor and Dillard's. Also on-site is one of the world's finest collections of contemporary art, belonging to NorthPark developer Raymond Nasher and his wife, Patsy. A trolley bus connects the mall to the nearby DART line, making it accessible for visitors staying at downtown hotels.
Specialty Stores
Russian Island
Galleria, Third Level, LBJ Freeway (I-635) at Dallas Parkway, North Dallas, Dallas.
A mini-museum of sorts, this shop offers genuine Soviet military uniforms, rare KGB badges, antique coins and amber jewelry. Munch on borscht and rogaliki (a Russian fruitcake) while you browse.

Stanley Korshak
Cedar Springs Road and Maple Avenue, Dallas.
One of Dallas' retail gems, Stanley Korshak specializes in upscale, one-of-a-kind women and men's fashions, shoes, jewelry and home accessories. The imposing white-brick building is part of the Crescent, a high-end retail area about a mile/1.6 km from downtown.
